Although I am not naive enough to believe this is the first time in history political parties have released talking points for their supporters; I am disgusted by the overt way this propaganda has been released. It's as though the Conservatives know they are moving towards media fascism but think the Canadian public is too apathetic to care. Thoughts?

It's not hard to believe. With the way Harper is locking down media within parliament he's got to have a way of pushing his party other than the usual bumbling speeches our past Prime Ministers used. If these facts actually are the facts then really there's nothing wrong with the Conservative website giving information to supports, and it's not like you're forced to do it, it's for people who want to be heard. All's fair in Love, War, and Politics.
I think it's because Stephen Harper knows he can get away with thing and knows nobody wants an election. As much as I dislike Harper, none of the other parties have a good leader right now and would lose if their was an election held
As dumb as it sounds it's not really all that bad of an idea. If what is being said is true then its almost like going online and looking the information up from other sources to support your opinions. It's also not like they are the only ones who get to talk, anyone can join in. Aswell, if other parties are doing somewhat of the same thing then really its kinda fair. You dont have to used everything that they tell you and they aren't putting a gun to your head to make you say it. We are still able to use our right of free speech to decide what we are actually going to say. Sure media wise it makes the government look sort of bad because they are telling people what to talk about, but at the end of the day it's still up to you about what your going to actually say and what you won't.
I can’t even begin to express how offended I am by this. I think this is ridiculous. The Conservative party does not need to take part in these type of cheap actions. Stephan Dion is at the head of the liberal party (for now). They are the closest threat to the conservatives and that’s a long shot in the dark. I think Harper seems to think he and his government can get away with these things. We as gatekeepers of the media need to dispel that notion with any means at our disposal. Though this issue just recently came to light, one has to wonder weather similar campaigns have been run by the Tories or otherwise in the past…..
I cant believe the government is giving people topics and issues to talk about like we are some kind of mindless drones. Do people no care that their lives are slowly being run for them? Is it so hard to have an opinion and just express it?
My opinion is simple: people should make up their own minds about thats happening in the world, and shouldn't have to rely on some script the government created for them.
At first I was quite surprised. But then it made some sense. Every party is going to find some way to manipulate the media. Whether it be through radio, t.v., or the internet. If Harper didn't set out to do something like this, then someone else would have. It really justs boils down to us the listeners. We have a choice whether or not TO listen. Or we can come up with our own views and opinions.
haha. Seriously. I'm sure there is some sort of gigantic travesty in terms of politics but what sticks out to me is that people are actually doing it. If you want to call into a radio show to have your opinion be heard why would you just spit out what the party releases for people to say? Seems so pointless to take the time out of your day to do that. Everybody that cares already knows. *sigh* Spoon-fed politician wannabes.
That is sick. I agree with Jill. It's disturbing how they just put this website out in the open. They're not even trying to persuade people in a subtle way; they're straight up trying to brain wash them, by feeding them what they should think. I would like to meet the tools who actually print that stuff out and call in. I'm disgusted by how the government is controlling media. Media might as well not exist, if the governement is going to keep them from doing their job. The Bourque thing ticked me off, this just makes me more angry.
Next thing you know, books will be edited for us, Canadian shows will be screened, schools reformed and subtle propoganda will creep up to us in our sleep. Chairman Harper, anyone? Actually, China as of now is undergoing some sort of Internet 'screening'. Apparently their government only wants their people to read what's good for them. What if that was us?
This makes me laugh, not because it's not sick, but because it reminds me of that "That 70's Show" episode when Red is excited to ask President Gerald Ford a question and then finds out that his question that he's supposed to ask is some cheesy propaganda fueling question...I suppose even tv shows based on the past can reflect real life today.
I think it's stupid that the people that are doing this can't think for themselves and are getting these scripts from the internet. It's pretty low of parties to do this, but I think it's worse that people would want to do this and not express their own opinions.
